They say that appearances are everything. Well, there is something to be said for that. You can have the absolute greatest product in the world, but if it looks like you just got off the banana boat, your prospects are going to take off so fast, your head will spin from the wind tunnel. Okay, maybe a little over the top, but the truth is, appearances do matter. This article explains. Hopefully, you’ll get something out of it.

Let’s start with the most important part of your home business…your web site or sales page. This is going to be the first thing the prospect sees. What do you think is going to happen if they see a site that looks like a five year old put it together? Well, if it’s another five year old, maybe it won’t be so bad. But if it’s anybody old enough to carry around a credit card and drink rum and colas, they’re not going to take your site very seriously, and ultimately…you’re going to lose any chance that you had at a sale.

Next in the line of site is the actual product that you’re selling. Sure, you may have some slick sales page that you paid $15,000 for somebody to put together, but if the customer opens up the product and finds something that was slapped together with toothpicks and scotch tape, you’re going to have more refunds than you’ll know what to do with. And I’m not just talking about the content of the product. I’m talking about the appearance as well. Sorry, but looks matter. You don’t have to put a tux on it but a nice pair of pants should be the bare minimum.

And then of course there is your customer service. When a customer contacts you, for whatever reason, he expects to be treated courteously and responded to quickly. Want to know what the biggest complaint of the home business niche is? It’s customer service. In short…it stinks. Most merchants don’t even get back to you when you write. And the ones who do, very few handle your inquiries with any kind of professionalism at all. It almost makes me ashamed to be part of this industry.

In short, too many home business owners run their businesses like they just got off the banana boat.

And that’s just BAD for business.
