This article is really going to get to the core of what it takes to run a successful home business. Do you have what it takes? Not sure? Then you might want to read this. The answers may not be what you expected.

First of all, let me start out by saying that I am not referring to the common things that I normally refer to such as having knowledge of how to run a business and properly investing your time and money into the business. I can teach a monkey to upload a site via FTP and anybody can get financial backing to invest in their business if they really want to. No, I’m referring to something that is truly the stumbling block for most people.

It’s called commitment. And these days, it seems to be a word that few people really understand. Oh it’s so easy to sit there and tell people that you are committed to something. We do it everyday. Sayings like, “I’m going to get the job done…no matter what it takes” are said so casually that you have to wonder if there is any meaning behind them anymore. Be honest. How many times have you said you were going to do something no matter what it takes and really meant it?

And that’s the heart of the problem with most people who start their own home business. They either don’t realize what it really takes to run a successful one, or they do realize it, think that they can put in all that time and effort but then when push comes to shove, they realize that they neither have the patience or the desire to put in that effort. Essentially, it comes down to one question.

“How bad do you REALLY want it?”

That answer is going to vary depending on your situation. For somebody who is just bored and looking for something to occupy their time, the chances of putting in the work needed to create a successful home business are slim to none. Why? Because the urgency isn’t there. There are plenty of easier and more fun ways to “occupy” one’s time.

In my case, out of work and with no prospects for any kind of a future, I had no choice but to make this work. That’s urgency. And it was all I needed to succeed. The learning part was easy. There is plenty of material online to educate you. As for finances, I managed. I found that on $200 a month, I could slowly build a profitable home business. No, you don’t need a fortune to make this work.

So again, I ask the question. “Do you have what it takes?” I don’t have that answer for you. You’re the only one who does. But if you think it’s simply a matter of learning a few marketing tricks and spending a few bucks, think again.

It’s a whole lot more than just that.
