Home Business Tips – Don’t Tell Me Your Troubles
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: home base business, home based business tips, home business articles, starting a home businessNo CommentsThis article is going to be a hard one to swallow for some people running their own home business. But if you don’t get this, you are going to be in for a world of hurt when you first open your mouth to tell your prospects and customers your tail of woe, If you can’t handle the cold hard truth, you might not want to read this.
Let me ask you a question. You go to the store to buy whatever. It doesn’t even matter what it is. But it’s something that requires the assistance of a sales person. Do you want to hear about the sales person’s miserable life or how their car broke down coming to work or whatever sad tail they have to share with you? No, you expect the sales person to have a smile on their face and give you the assistance that YOU need in order to make an informed buying decision.
Well, the same thing is true with YOUR customers. I don’t know what kind of business you run. It doesn’t matter. Let’s say you’re a freelancer and you promised somebody a sales letter by the end of the week. The customer doesn’t want to hear that the cat unplugged your computer or that there’s a leak in the roof and you had to get it fixed. They don’t want to hear that you’ve been unable to work because your dog has fleas and you had to take him to the vet. Your customer has paid you for a service or product and they expect to get it on time. They also expect it to be of good quality.
Cold? Maybe, but that’s the reality of the world that we live in. Business is business and NOBODY wants to hear YOUR problems. This is why I keep business on an impersonal level with everybody. I do NOT become chummy with my customers. It causes problems on so many levels, you can’t imagine. For one thing, if you become “friends” with somebody, they will expect special favors. Know what happens when you have a lot of friends? You don’t get any REAL work done.
And then try to tell those “friends” that you can’t get something done that you promised them because you’re going through a divorce, or whatever. See how friendly they are after they have to cancel a product launch or whatever it is they’re doing. You can cross them off your Christmas list for sure.
Like it or not, this is how you have to run your business IF you want to be seen as a professional. Whatever demons you’ve got going on in your life, nobody wants to know what they are. They just want to know how much it costs and when they can have it.
You’ve got family to lay all your problems on.
But THAT’S another story.
