Home Business Tips – Don’t Think the Big Boys Can’t Have Problems
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: home base business, home based business tips, home business articles, starting a home businessNo CommentsPeople who run their own home business think that the big boys of the Internet don’t have problems, even major ones. Well, if you’ve been keeping up with the news of late, you know that this couldn’t be farther from the truth. Nobody is immune to the hazards of running a business online. This article explains and offers some tips on how to help prevent disasters.
Unless you’ve been living in a cave, you probably know that the other day at around 10:30 PST, PayPal, one of the largest payment processors on the Internet, had a major hardware meltdown. The entire Internet population was affected. It was estimated that about $2,000 a second was lost. If you do the math for the four hours that they were down, it comes to something like 32 million dollars, according to reports. Now, for me and you, this would be a major disaster. For PayPal, while it wasn’t life threatening, it had to sting just a little bit.
Point is, if a company like PayPal can be hit by a disaster like this and lose that much cash, anybody can. However, that doesn’t mean that we just sit back and throw our hands up in the air when something goes wrong. It also doesn’t mean that we don’t take preventative measures to ensure that these things don’t happen or at least have little chance of happening.
One thing we can do, especially with our sites, is have a backup plan. It doesn’t cost a lot of money to have a second hosting service that we can switch our sites to in case one of our servers goes down. The small cost could save you tons of lost income if your server should happen to crash. This way, if something does happen, you can quickly have things rerouted and be back up and running within minutes.
Of course we also want to make sure we back up all the files on our server. That way, if the server drive should kick the bucket, we don’t lose all our hard work. If you’ve been online for many years, this could amount to a lot of lost time trying to restore everything…if that’s even possible.
Nobody wants to think that disaster will happen. But just ask PayPal. They’ll tell you.
It can happen to anybody.
