Home Business Tips – Finding Your Place in the Sun
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: home base business, home based business tips, home business articles, starting a home businessNo CommentsRemember that great Pablo Cruz song “Place In The Sun?” Wasn’t that such a great tune? Yeah, gotta find my place in the sun. Boy, if more home business owners would take time to do that, maybe we’d have fewer people failing with their home business. But what exactly do I mean by finding your place in the sun? Well, keep reading and you’ll find out. You may not agree, but at the very least, it WILL give you something to think about.
One of the first things I hear from people trying to start a home business is something that goes like this. “Can I make money doing xyz? I hear you can.” Are you hearing what I hear when somebody asks that? Most people don’t. Most people just look at this whole thing very superficially. Well, the problem with that question, one that’s asked over and over, is that it doesn’t for a second take into consideration any of the following.
For starters, it doesn’t take into consideration the person’s interests. I don’t know about you, but I have no interest at all in anthropology. So if somebody told me that I could make money as an anthropologist, I’d immediately say “no thank you.” Why? Because the thought of doing that for the rest of my life makes me want to jump out a window…no matter how much money I can make doing it. I don’t want to do something that I’m going to hate. And most home business startups do NOT take this into consideration and end up hating what they’re doing…especially when the money doesn’t come in right away.
Another thing that this question doesn’t take into consideration is the person’s skills. Imagine somebody wanting to make a living as a freelancer writing salescopy and they can’t write a lick. How much success do you think they’re going to have at it…no matter how much money they can make at it? If you don’t have the skill to do something, sure, you can learn…but until you do, you might want to consider doing something that you’re more suited to…especially if you need money fast.
Finally, there is expense. Some business plans require a large investment. What are you doing to do if you don’t have the money? Getting credit isn’t as easy as you might think, especially if this is your first business. So trying to tackle a business plan that requires a large investment may not be such a good idea, at least not at the very start.
So before you jump at something just because somebody says you can make a lot of money doing it, please consider your interests, skills and how much money it’s going to take to start such a business.
You just might save yourself from making on whopper of a mistake.
