I got an email today from somebody who had bought one of my money making products. Essentially what it said was, “I tried this for two days and I’m not making any money. What am I doing wrong? I’m ready to quit.” I couldn’t believe what I was reading. Well, actually, I could. This is the typical get rich mentality that I run into almost everyday. I don’t understand why people who run their own business think the money is going to come pouring in overnight.

In the real brick and mortar world, some businesses take two years or longer to see a profit. The people who open up their own shops know this going in. They don’t expect to be in profit on day one. And yet, when these same people come online, they expect to put up a web page and have the bucks come rolling in the very next day. What is it that makes people think this way? Do you know it took me five months to make my first $28? I wasn’t expecting miracles. Today, I make a six figure income. Had I given up after five months, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Okay, so what’s involved? Well, it’s simple. You have to give it some time AND you have to make a business plan. For this plan you need several things. The first is what business you’re actually going to get involved in. After that you have to work out a budget. How much are you going to spend each month? How much do you realistically want to make each month? How are you going to go about making this income? Will you advertise using paid forms of promotion or free? Are you going to outsource?

There is so much involved when it comes to starting your own business. The truth is, the business planning stage alone is going to take you days if not weeks. These things don’t happen overnight. Even today, with my business plan in place, if I create a new product, it could take me weeks to design it and get it finished. It doesn’t happen quickly, even with all my experience.

So please, give it some time. If you put the time and effort into your business that it needs, you’ll see the kind of success that you’re looking for.
