I love the way so many people take things SO literally. When you say to them “run a home business” they immediately think that this means that they HAVE to run their business out of their home. Well, this couldn’t be farther from the truth. In fact, your home may be the WORST place to run your business out of. This article gives some alternatives to working out of the home.

First off, let me explain why working out of your home may be a bad idea. If you’re a working mom, mom being the operative word, there is a good chance that you’ve got some little ones running around the place. Ever try getting anything done with a three year old constantly needing your attention? It’s not easy. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, I’m a stay at home dad and I remember very well what it was like when my daughter was very young. Even today, now that she’s all grown up, she needs my attention for things.

Okay, so what are your alternatives? Well, how about this for one. If you can afford it, why not go out and rent some office space. It doesn’t have to be big. It can be a one room flat. That’s really all you need. That way, you’re out of the house just as if you were working a real job. Not that running a home business isn’t work. Believe me, it is.

But what if you can’t afford office space? Well, the great thing about technology today is that you’re not tied down to a computer at your desk anymore. With laptops and wireless Internet connections, you can work just about anywhere. So why not head over to the local library? Most are open from 8 AM to 5 PM. That’s certainly more than enough hours for a good workday.

Don’t like the idea of going to a library? Fine…how about your backyard? Maybe sit on the front steps or get a lawn chair and put it out on the front lawn. Won’t your neighbors wonder what you’re doing sitting out there with a laptop and a smile. Or, you can go to any of those cafes where they have PCs you can use OR you can bring your own and use their wireless.

Point is, you DON’T have to work out of your home. And quite honestly, if there are too many distractions, such as the TV and the fridge, you’re probably better off working someplace else.

No, working a home business does NOT mean you have to work out of your home.
