One of the worst things that can happen to somebody who is just starting up a home based business is getting knocked down by a big time scam. Yeah, these can really put a crimp in your business plans of flat out destroy them. So in my attempt to educate others on scams, this article is going to show you what to look out for. Hopefully, these tips will keep you out of trouble.

First thing you want to do before you get involved in any home business opportunity is check with the BBBOnline. Now, there is no guarantee that just because you don’t find anything bad about this company that it means they’re legit. But if you do find something, beware. This could very well mean that getting involved with them will lead to nothing but trouble. Where there is smoke, there is fire.

Next thing you want to do, even if you don’t find anything, is actually contact the company. For that matter, see if there is even a way to contact the company. A lot of web pages don’t have any way of contacting the person running the show. If there is no email address or no phone or no other way of asking questions, then there is a very good chance that they have something to hide. I’d never do business with a company I can’t ask questions of first.

So what questions do you ask? Well, for starters, how long they’ve been in business, what the actual opportunity involves, how you actually make money and so on. You want to ask as many questions as you can. If the company has nothing to hide, they’ll answer them honestly and without being vague about it. Some answers you get will sound fishy. Use your radar in these circumstances. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

These tips will get you started. There is no 100% sure way to avoid scams, but by following this checklist, you give yourself the best chance of NOT being taken for a ride.
