One of the hardest things to do, as a home business owner, is build a reputation. When you first start out, nobody knows you from Adam. In this article, I’m going to share a few simple ways to help build your reputation without having to go into debt to do it.

Probably one of the best ways to build a reputation as a home business owner is by getting involved in a franchise. The reason that this is such a good way is because you are actually working off the name of the franchise and not your own name, at least to begin with. That is why so many people will start up with a company like Avon or something similar. The buying public is already familiar with the brand. All YOU then have to do is become a responsible representative of that brand. It’s not that hard to do because you’ve already got your foot in the door with a name people know and trust.

But what if you already have a home business and it doesn’t revolve around a brand name? What if you have something like your own T-shirt manufacturing business where you make custom T-shirts? Well, one way to build up your reputation is to maybe give away some T-Shirts in a promotion. You might want to run a contest and aware T-shirts to 100 people, or 50 people, or however many you feel you can afford. Running promotions like these is a great way of building a reputation. After all, people love getting stuff for free.

Finally, what you can do is simply get out there and make yourself known through the various social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook and MySpace. Interact with people who might be interested in the type of business you’re in. Build a following and let them know what you do. If the general market you’re in is very popular (entertainment, clothes, sports, etc.) there is a very good chance that you’re going to get a large following. Once you’ve done this, THEN you can back peddle to number two above and run some kind of promotion or contest. This will probably go viral very fast and bring you a lot of potential customers.

Point is, nobody is going to know who you are unless you get out there and make it happen. The above three ways should give you a nice start.
