Home Business Tips – It’s the Fall That’s Going to Kill You
No CommentsWatched a great episode of West Wing once where CJ was talking to Josh and brought up the movie Butch Cassidy. She reminded him of how Butch said to Sundance (or maybe it was the other way around) that worrying about drowning when jumping into the falls was stupid. It’s the fall that’s going to kill you. I loved that show. But okay, what the heck does this have to do with running your own home business? Keep reading and I think you’ll understand.
What do home business owners worry about? Well, they worry about a lot of things. For starters, how to get traffic to their web site. This is probably the biggest concern of all home business owners. How can I sell anything if I can’t get people to my site? This is a perfect example of how the fall is going to kill you. See, the bigger problem is not getting traffic to your site. It’s having something to sell in the first place. And when I say something to sell, I mean something “worth” selling.
See, a lot of home business owners think that they can join any crappy biz op or latch onto any crappy product and just slap together some site, maybe a cookie cutter one, and then all they have to do is get a whole bunch of people to the site. Problem is then solved. NO, the problem is far from solved. You can’t sell oxygen to a dead man. Okay, maybe that’s a little extreme but you get the point. You need to have something to sell that people actually want. Otherwise, all the traffic in the world isn’t going to mean a thing.
And this example is just the tip of the iceberg of what I’m talking about. Another thing that home business owners worry about is putting up some pretty web site. They literally drive themselves nuts making sure that the site has all the bells and whistles so that when people DO come to the web site they’ll actually stick around long enough to buy something.
But buy what? Do you even know if the product you’re selling is something that will sell? Do you know if anybody wants it? Do you know if it’s any good? Have you used it yourself? Can you HONESTLY endorse it to others? If you can’t answer yes to all these questions, what does it matter how nice your website is? A pretty site with tons of traffic (is it even targeted traffic) is worthless unless you have an offer that people actually care about.
So stop worrying about drowning for crying out loud.
It’s the fall that’s going to kill you.
