Home Business Tips – Keep Your Options Open
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: home base business, home based business tips, home business articles, starting a home businessNo CommentsThe people who are most successful running a home business, at least in my opinion, are those who keep their options open. Too many folks are closed minded about things and that cuts them off from potential income opportunities. This article is going to go into this in some detail, starting with a personal story.
When I first started my home business a little over 7 years ago, one of the first things I did was freelancing. I wrote articles for people as well as short reports. After a while, I got out of the freelancing business and worked my way to marketing and product creation. But I never lost my freelancing chops.
Anyway, a few days ago, somebody emailed me and asked if I would write up a short report for them. They knew me as a marketer and product creator and knew I could do a satisfactory job for them. Normally, I would have turned down the assignment because of all the other things I have on my table. But, I was free that day, knew I could do the report quickly and wasn’t going to turn down the $350 I was going to make from the job. So I took it. It didn’t interfere with anything else I had to do, so why not?
One of the things I have learned in these 7 plus years is that you never know when opportunities are going to arise. In that time, I have had requests for articles, reports, web sites, salescopy, autoresponder followups and a ton of other things that I can’t even remember. In each case, I weighed what I would get paid against how long it would take me to get the job done. I also took into account anything that I had to do that was pressing. If I had the time and it was profitable enough, I took on the assignment.
Too many people will say, “I don’t normally do that” or “I don’t have to do that” or some other excuse for turning down something that isn’t a part of their normal routine. But I can’t tell you how many months I’ve made as much as an extra $500 to $1,500 or more taking on these odds and ends. Over the course of a year, this adds up to what, for some people, is a full time income.
Back when I was a kid, they called people like me “go getters.” In other words, somebody who was always looking for an opportunity. These “go getters” are the people, in my opinion, who are the most successful in any walk of life.
So, before your turn down that “special” request, give it some thought. You may just find out that it’s worth your time to do.
