A lot of people who start their own home business seem to feel that some motivation type course, something like “The Secret” is going to get them motivated. Well, here’s a news flash that you can take to the bank. There is only one person in the world who can motivate you. Know who that is? It’s you. If you’ll hang in there, I’ll explain exactly what I mean.

Let me start out by saying that I have nothing against self help courses. They can actually be quite informative and provide you with some good ideas. However, it doesn’t matter how good the course is or what the course contains. If you yourself don’t want to be motivated; if you don’t have the intestinal fortitude to get down to brass tacks, you’re not going to get anything out of these courses.

Okay, you’re probably thinking why that is. Well, the answer can be seen all over the place. I want to thank my friend Tom from the Warrior Forum for pointing some of these out to me. For example, take the folks who belong to all those stop smoking programs. How many of those folks never quit? Tons of them, right? And yet, how many smokers get up one day and just say, “The heck with it! I’m done smoking.” And they never smoke another cigarette as long as they live.

Their motivation came from within, whether it was from a sheer will to live or not wanting to expose their children to second hand smoke or whatever the reason. They did it because they wanted to. If you think it’s too easy, trust me, it’s not. Most of my major decisions have finally come from me just sitting down and saying to myself, “I’m done doing it this way.” I never needed anybody to tell me that I had to do something. And when they did, it didn’t matter. If I wasn’t ready to listen, I didn’t. It wasn’t until I was finally ready to accept what I had to do that I did it.

I am in no way saying not to get an education and not to seek the help of others. But if you’re looking for motivation, there is only one place you’re going to get it from.

And that is from within yourself.
