Home Business Tips – Picking Your Battles
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: home base business, home based business tips, home business articles, starting a home businessNo CommentsAs you run your home business, you will find that there are things that are going to come up that will require you to make decisions. I’m not talking about the decision to use a certain form of promotion or not. No, nothing that mundane. I’m talking about major decisions that may very well affect how you run your business. If you’re a little confused at where I’m going with this, keep reading. I promise you that by the time you’re done, you’ll get it…loud and clear.
Without going into detail, because I don’t want to give these people any more power over me than they deserve, I had to make such a decision just recently. Certain activities outside of the actual running of my business were taking my attention OFF my business. I was allowing events that really didn’t matter to start to run my life. Then I spoke with a very wise marketer and he had me walk through the incident to see if any of it REALLY had an effect on my income.
After going through the events, I realized that, ultimately, none of it had any effect on my business at all. My income didn’t drop because of it, I didn’t get less traffic because of it, and the respect that I had earned wasn’t diminished in the least because of it. All it was doing was getting me angry inside…and that was a total waste of my energy. That’s not to say that there wasn’t something I could do to rectify the situation, which I did. But beyond that, I refused to allow it to take over my life.
So the question is, how do you pick your battles? Well, to keep this as generic as possible, here are a couple of helpful tips.
If it’s a legal matter, where the incident in question is actually in violation of your legal rights, then by all means take it up with a lawyer IF it’s economically feasible. Remember, not all violations incur a monetary loss. So you have to decide if it’s something worth pursuing. Naturally, if it’s something resulting in a large loss of money, then something needs to be done.
If it’s a personal attack, such as slander or libel, you need to see what kind of fallout you’re getting from it. Is your traffic down? Are your sales down? If it’s obvious that the attacks are seriously affecting your income, again, you need to stop it. If it’s a matter of pride or ego, sit back and ask yourself if any of the attacks are truly hurting you or a member of your family. If not, it may not be worth doing battle with these people.
In short, use your head. Don’t give people more power over you than they deserve. Everything you do should have a positive effect on your business…not a negative one.
