Home Business Tips – The Foundation of Your Business

Let me pose this question to you. What’s the one thing, that if it went down today, would totally cripple your business? What could you absolutely not live without? After giving this question a lot of thought, I realized something very important. Your business is dependent on so many things that just one of them going on the fritz could lead to disaster. I’m going to cover just a few of these here.

Let’s start with the basic foundation…your hosting. Whatever you’re selling, and it doesn’t matter what it is, if you have a web site, it has to be hosted somewhere. Now granted, there are some solutions that are better than others. But in the long run, no solution is foolproof. If the server you’re on goes down, gets hacked or whatever, you’re still relying on a third party to get you back up and running. And if that third party is out of town, in the hospital…or worse…then what? Sure, you could have a server in your home, but that comes with its own set of problems.

What about your product or service? What would happen if suddenly, it didn’t exist anymore? What if you’re promoting some biz op program that has been created by another person? If that site goes down permanently (it does happen) then what? Until you find something else to promote, you’re out of business. In this case, creating your own product or service is the way to go. At least then, you’re relying on nobody but yourself.

What about your credit cards and financial means to pay bills? Some people pay with credit cards and others use services like PayPal. Well, what if your credit card gets canceled on you because you haven’t been keeping up with the payments? What if PayPal cancels your account? Hey, it does happen. Then what? How are you going to pay for your hosting and other services? If you can’t, all those other things go bye-bye.

Point is, our home business relies on so many things…each one no less or more important than another. The key to keeping ourselves afloat is to make sure that we have a backup plan for each part of our business. That means another hosting account we can transfer things to, a backup income stream and a backup payment processor. No, it’s still not foolproof, but it will help greatly in the event of a disaster.
