Home Business Tips – What Kind of Customers Do You Want?
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: home base business, home based business tips, home business articles, starting a home businessNo CommentsOne of the wonderful things about running our own home business is that we get to choose the kind of customers we want. Question is, what kind of customer do YOU want? Not sure? Don’t know where I’m going with this? Keep reading and you’ll find out.
Let me start off with saying that this article was inspired by a forum post where one of the members was complaining about his “free” customers, saying that they required more support than his “paid” customers. Now, we can debate all day about whether or not somebody who never gave you any money is actually a customer, but if you’re providing them with support, they’re going to take a piece of your time…maybe a big piece too.
Okay, but why? Why is it that people who get your stuff for free or at a very low cost are more of a time suck than somebody who has purchased something from you at a higher price? Well, it comes down to mindset. People who are always looking for free stuff are of a scarcity mindset. They’ll take and take and take until the well runs dry and then they’ll run off to take from somebody else. In short, they’re bloodsuckers. If your free report has a typo in it, they’ll be the first ones to write to you and complain about it. Somebody who just bought your $297 home study course won’t even notice the typo. They just want to get educated so that they can run a business themselves.
So what kind of customer do you want? If you sell low end products, you are going to get customers who demand more of your time. If you sell high end products, not so much. Now don’t get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with selling low end products. I do it all the time. However, you must understand going in that doing so will probably end up causing you many support issues that you will have to deal with on a daily basis. If you’re cool with that, great. But if you don’t want to spend a good part of your day handling these issues, you might want to think about selling higher end products.
There you have it. The choice you ultimately make is yours. Just be aware that the kind of customer you cater to will determine what kind of a home business support headache you will or won’t have.
