The biggest problem that a lot of home business owners have is that they have nothing that makes them stand out from others. They become just another face in the crowd. Let me ask you a question. If you’re standing in a crowded room of 200 people and everybody is dressed the same, what are the chances that you’re going to be noticed? Well, the same thing is true about your business. If you don’t stand out, you don’t get noticed. That’s where your USP comes in. This article explains.

USP stands for unique selling proposition or unique selling point. It’s what sets you apart from all the other home business owners selling the same thing. Probably the best way to illustrate how this works is to fill you in on a new USP that I have decided to develop for my own home business. I probably shouldn’t let this cat out of the bag, but it’s a great way to demonstrate how pointing out something that probably everybody else has can still set you apart.

My new USP is that of the marketer in the trenches…the guy who understands the little guy. I will stress, in my promotions, how I’ve been in the trenches for over six years and in spite of being in them for so long and becoming so successful, I still remember what it was like to start out. I can empathize with the startup business owner because I haven’t forgotten what it was like to struggle at the beginning. I can relate, where the big companies can’t. Now, the truth is, a lot of the big name marketers can probably still relate too, but they don’t make that their USP. Most come from a position of “I’m the expert” and that’s why you need me.

Point is, it doesn’t matter what your USP is as long as you have one. Why? Because it’s something for people to remember you by. You are no longer a nameless face in the crowd. You’re the guy with the “super cool gizmo” or the gal with the “looks that could kill” or however you want to present yourself or your product. One beer manufacturer makes a big deal about the way their beer is made, even though ever beer manufacturer really uses the same process. They just make a big deal about it and thus they make it their USP.

Creating a USP is easy. All you have to do is focus on one thing about your product or yourself and point it out. It may be something that’s obvious, but by bringing attention to it, especially if it’s something your competitors don’t mention, it will give you a foothold in your niche simply because people will remember who you are.

I can’t stress the importance of a USP. Find yours and you just might find your success.

    To YOUR Success,
