I can hear the self righteous home business owners now. “You can’t do that!” Or maybe it might sound like this. “You have to do it THIS way.” Oh how I love the absolutes that are thrown around in this business. Well, if you’re under the impression that there is only one right way to run a home business, this article might come as a complete shock to you. There are no rules that you have to follow except one. I’m going to tell you what it is. But first…a story.

When I first started my home business, over six years ago, I got all kinds of advice. You can’t imagine some of the garbage that I heard. Some of it sounded absolutely implausible but some of it did sound like it might work. Notice I used the word “might.” I wasn’t totally convinced of anything. But I was willing to give certain things a try.

Well, as time went on, I began to see what was working for me and what wasn’t working for me. Ironically, the things that I found working were the things that so many people warned me against. They told me that my amateur looking sales page wouldn’t make me any sales. And yet, that product sold me over 200 copies a month for a whole year. Maybe I just knew my target market well enough so that even with an amateur sales page, I’d still make a considerable number of sales.

Point is, I defied a lot of conventions. Things that should have blown up in my face turned out to be big money makers for me. I never really did what the “big” boys did. I always marched to my own drum beat. And it is because of that, I have been able to generate a six figure income online.

Okay, so what’s that one thing that you really need to do no matter what you do with your home business? It’s very simple. It’s called test. That’s right. Make sure that whatever it is you do, you test it. You track your results to see if they’re good or bad. If they’re bad, you make changes. If they’re good, you try to improve where you can, but don’t mess with success.

That is the simple formula I have been living by for over six years. I do not believe in any absolutes because what works for me might not work for you.
