For those of you who have a home business or are thinking of starting one, the title of this article might sound a little odd. I mean, aren’t you running a home based business because you DON’T want to have to do any work outside of your home? Well, primarily, yes. However, if you really want to make the most out of your business, you probably want to do a few things outside of the home. This article explains.

Let’s start off with the absolute essentials. The reason I call these essentials is because in today’s day and age, everybody expects you to have a web site. I don’t care what business you’re in. Now, you do go out once in a while, right? I mean it’s not like you’re a hermit. If you are, you need to get a life. Anyway, what happens when you run into somebody and you start talking and they ask you want you do for a living? I get that question asked at least once or twice a month, and I rarely go out.

This is your opportunity, not only to tell them, but to show them. A business card works great for this. Now obviously, each business card is going to be different depending on what kind of home business you’re running. In my case, my business card reads “Business Consultant” because essentially, that’s what I am. I help people with their businesses. Now, let’s say I were to run into somebody who had an offline business and wanted some consulting. You’re probably thinking that I can’t help them.

Wrong! What did I sat up top? Everybody expects you to have a web site these days. So the first thing I would ask the person is if they had a web presence. If not, I’d then start working with them on getting one. I am now working outside the home, even though it is doing the same thing that I would be doing over the Internet.

See, what home business owners seem to forget, and this is mostly because of the anonymity that we work under online, is that the people on the other side of our transactions are still people, even though we can’t see them. Well, those same people have lives outside their computers. Therefore, there is always the chance that we’ll run into those same people outside of our homes.

Okay, so a business card is an absolute essential thing that can lead to more business.

But there is still more you can do. Let’s say somebody wants to talk to you about your business at their home. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could show them some kind of brochure on what you do? It doesn’t have to be 100 pages long or fancy. Just something simple so that you can have a more professional appearance.

These are things that most home business owners don’t think about, but trust me…they can go a long way to increasing your income.

At the very least, it’s something to think about.
