Home Business Tips – You Don’t Have to Talk Business to Effectively Network
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: home base business, home based business tips, home business articles, starting a home businessNo CommentsWhat you are about to read is a true story. The point of it is simple. You don’t have to talk business in order to effectively network with others. In this article, I’m going to explain to you why this is true and what you can do to pull it off. Keep reading to find out my big secret.
Okay, let’s get to the true story. On Friday nights, a few folks from the Warrior Forum get together in a chat room hosted by a great guy by the name of George Sepich and we talk. Sometimes we talk about marketing or running a home business, but often we talk about other things like music, movies, politics or whatever. Many evenings the conversation becomes quite hysterical…especially when some of the members start letting their hair down…so to speak.
In spite of the casual atmosphere, many times some great JVs came out of the evening…with nothing more than a lot of talk about nonsense going on beforehand. But how? How is this possible? Why would anybody want to work with another person based on what musical groups they like? Therein lies the problem with the thought process of many people into networking with others.
See, it’s not about the business venture or what you bring to the table. Not really. Sure, that plays a part in it. After all, if you have nothing to offer, it’s going to be difficult to get anybody to work with you. But even if you had a great deal to offer, most relationships come down to one thing.
Does the person on the other end think you’re a person of good character?
They want to know that you’re somebody who they can work with and get along with. And the only way to really do that is to get to know a little bit about the person. And what better way to do that than to share your likes and dislikes?
The other night, I was talking up a storm about music and about how I loved all kinds of music from rock to opera. Another person at the chat room was also into music. Turns out we have a lot in common. Well, this common ground eventually lead to us agreeing that we should work together on something one day soon. And this was without really talking about business.
Networking is all about relationships and building them. Show genuine interest in the person you’re talking to. Find out what they like and don’t like. Get to know them.
That is going to ultimately be more effective than any cheesy sales pitch in the whole world.
