If you asked me what the most important thing was for having a successful home business, I’d have to say that a good reputation was up towards the top of the list. Some people just don’t get this. It takes months or even years to really build a reputation online and yet, it can be destroyed in a heartbeat. This article is going to go over just a few ways to ruin your reputation. I hope you will take these words to heart.

Probably the best way to kill your reputation is to deliver a shoddy product. You may be able to get a person to buy the first time, but after they see how bad the product is, they’ll either return it or never buy another product from you again should you have more than one. Eventually, you WILL run out of customers. Plus, once the word spreads that your products are garbage, a lot of potential customers will stay far, far away. And trust me, negative press travels quickly.

Another way to kill your reputation, assuming you have a good product, is to offer lousy customer service. Like it or not, customers are going to have questions and/or problems that will need to be answered and solved. If you don’t get back to these people, assuming you’ve even given them a way to reach you, you’re going to have quite a few unhappy customers. Customer service is what separates one business from another. So if you want a good reputation, deliver quality customer service.

Finally, and this is what gets a lot of people into tons of trouble, there is bad mouthing the competition. Look, I understand that you want to explain to people why YOUR product is better than the competition’s, but you can do this without bad mouthing. Nobody likes a business person who knocks somebody else. It’s not professional and ultimately, word is going to get out that you practice this sort of thing. When that happens, your reputation is going to take a severe hit.

These three things (there are others) are at the top of my list for killing your reputation. So make sure that you focus on them.

It could mean the difference between success and failure.
