There, I said it. Home businesses are for idiots. Now, before you form a lynching party, you might want to read the rest of this article. I promise you that after you’ve done that, you will see that I haven’t insulted you at all. In fact, I’ve paid you a high compliment. Wonder how that can be? Well, keep reading and you’ll find out. It’s all in the acronym.

I stands for Informed. I don’t care what you do with your life, whether it’s running a home business or running a multi billion dollar conglomerate. You have to be informed. If you don’t know what’s going on in the world, especially when it comes to regulations, you could be in serious trouble. So it’s important to keep up with the latest and greatest.

D stands for Dedicated. Some people think that they can run a home business like a hobby. Well, if you run it like a hobby, you’re going to end up with a hobby income. If you want to earn a serious income, you MUST treat your business LIKE a business. And that means you have to be dedicated to it. That means maybe giving up that TV show because you have a deadline to meet.

I stands for Insightful. You have to have insight in this business. For that matter, you need insight for anything that you do. The folks who can look at something and see beyond the surface, those are the folks who are going to make it the farthest. I’m not saying you have to invent electricity or anything like that, but if you can think outside the box and come up with new ideas, that will put you ahead of the competition.

O is for Organized. Have you ever taken a look at some people’s PCs? You couldn’t find anything if your life depended on it. No project folders, no organization…nothing. It’s a mass of data all over the place. How long do you think it takes these people just to find anything? And some don’t even know how to do a drive search, which makes it even harder. Organization saves time and time is money. Don’t ever forget that.

T is for Trained. Do you think that a car mechanic has never had any kind of training at all, even if it was just self training? I don’t know anybody who is such a natural at anything that they don’t need any kind of training at all. In short, if you don’t know what you’re doing, you won’t succeed. I can’t make it any clearer than that.

S is for Single Minded. When you run a home business, you have to almost have tunnel vision. Everything you do must have a single goal and in order to achieve that goal, you must follow a single path straight through to the end. Those who are easily distracted and don’t follow through a project to completion never have the success that they could have.

There you have it. Home businesses are for IDIOTS. I’m an IDIOT.

And I’m damn proud of it.

    To YOUR Success,

    Steven Wagenheim
