Internet Marketing Tips – Are You a Sheep in Cattle Country?

Are you a sheep in cattle country? Odd question? Maybe, but it’s an important one to be able to answer if you’re going to make it as an Internet marketer.

Okay, so what exactly was the inspiration for such an odd title to an article? Well, I just finished watching a great episode of “Big Valley” where a sheep herder ended up causing a big stir in the area. Seems that cattle ranchers were prejudiced against sheep herders. They called them vermin. A pretty bad war broke out and all heck broke loose. But in the end, the cattle ranchers realized that there was room for them and the sheep herders.

It’s always easier to go with the crowd. That way you don’t make any waves. However, by marching to the tune of your own bagpipes, you can sometimes make a killing online. And that is the point of this article. See, if you’re a sheep herder, or doing something that most marketers don’t do, there’s room for you on the Internet. You don’t have to conform to “their” way of doing things. There is an old saying that there’s more than one way to skin a cat. Well, I don’t know about skinning cats, but there are certainly many ways to market online. The key is being unique.

Okay, so how can you do that? Well, take a look at what “most” marketers are doing. See if you can improve on their methods. For example, let’s say that everybody out there is using a certain article format when writing. Maybe try something a little different and off the wall. Sure, it might fall flat on its face, but if it catches on, you may have started a trend that could be attributed to you. What do you think THAT will do for your reputation? Sure, at first, some may criticize you for your tactics as being cheesy or whatever. But eventually, just like those cattle ranchers, they’ll come around…provided your tactics are ethical.

It’s easy to be sheep, but it’s hard to be a sheep herder in cattle country. You have to not be afraid to say, “This is who I am and this is what I do.” Those who can do that will stand apart from the crowd and make true names for themselves.

And that’s what makes a truly great Internet marketer.
