Some statistics were just released for 2007 and they’re not pretty. Everybody knows that spam is a problem for Internet marketers because their message is being buried when arriving in somebody’s email box. But I don’t think you know just how bad the problem really is. Well, this article is going to reveal just how bad the problem is and will also show you what you can do about it to make sure that your message has the best possible chance of making it through the noise.

Okay, first the statistics, and I am going to round these numbers off if that’s okay. It was estimated that about 62 trillion emails were sent in 2007. Out of those 62 trillion emails, it has been estimated that about 43 trillion of them were either considered spam or contained viruses. If you do the math, that comes out to about 69% of the total emails delivered are spam or dangerous. That’s an awful lot of emails for a marketer to have to contend with since their message is basically getting lost in the noise. So how do you deal with this?

For starters, you want to make sure that your message actually gets delivered. To do this, you want to run it through a spam checker and note your score. You want that score to be as close to zero as possible. Oh yeah, I know that they say it can be as high as 4.9 and still get delivered, but trust me, you want it as close to zero as you can get it. That will give you the best chance of having your emails delivered.

The next thing you want to do is make sure that you tell all your subscribers to white list your email address. This way, you have a pretty good chance of the email not being filtered by the ISP this person is using for no good reason at all. I have had regular correspondence between myself and a business partner not get through because of spam filters. It’s getting harder and harder to get your emails delivered. In the meantime, the spam gets through with almost no problem. It’s insane.

Yes, it is getting harder and harder to market in the world today. The spam war goes on and the legitimate marketers are the ones who are caught in the middle. However, by following these simple tips, you’ll have a much better chance of having your message delivered and read.
