Steve Wagenheim’s Home Business Blog Everything You’ll Need To Run A Successful Home Business

This article was actually inspired by a forum thread title. The title could actually apply to just about anything when it comes to Internet marketing. It’s actually a very good question and one that needs to be answered if you’re going to maximize your profits…regardless of what it is you’re selling. Keep reading to find out just what it is I’m talking about…if you haven’t already figured it out.

Okay, I didn’t actually read the thread because I didn’t want to be influenced by any of the ideas in it, but essentially, the question was directed to people running special offers at the forum itself asking them if they were crazy or desperate in regard to their pricing. I knew immediately what this person was referring to. Some of the special offers, which granted are supposed to be at a better price than to the regular buying public, are priced so low that you really have to wonder if these people are crazy or just desperate for a sale.

For example, somebody would offer to write a sales letter for $50. Now being a copywriter myself, I can tell you that even at a real bargain, a short sales letter shouldn’t go for less than $350 to $500. To charge $50 for a sales letter is almost a slap in the face to the copywriting profession and really makes me wonder if the copywriter offering this price is any good.

Think about it, if you’re a successful copywriter, why would you offer your services for that kind of money? I know I wouldn’t. But more importantly is how people perceive you. If I weren’t a copywriter and needed a sales letter written and was looking to save some money, do you think I’d ever considering taking somebody up on their offer to write me a sales letter for $50? How good can they possibly be? I certainly have no reason to believe that they’re any good at THOSE prices.

Point is, if you’re going to market your products or services, charge what you’re worth. Sure, you might get some people who are only concerned about price, but for the most part, you’re going to end up actually getting fewer sales or customers because the average buying public, at least the ones with any sense at all, will stay far away from deals that look too good. Besides, you’re never going to make any decent amount of money pricing your skills below what they’re worth.

It’s something to think about the next time you offer your product or service for sale.
