Internet Marketing Tips – Are You Spreading Yourself Too Thin?
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: internet marketing strategies, internet marketing strategy, strategic internet marketingNo CommentsA lot of Internet marketers can’t seem to get started. Taking action is a big problem for them. And then there are the marketers who are into so many things, they don’t know whether they’re coming or going. In this article, I’m asking you a straight forward question. Are you spreading yourself too thin? Not sure? Well, hopefully, after reading this, you’ll have a decent idea of whether or not you’re biting off more than you can chew.
But first, a quick story. I just received a message from a friend who is a marketer online asking me if I’d be interested in a project with them. As much as I would have liked to have said yes, I realized that given all that I had on my plate, it was best if I had declined…which I did. It wasn’t an easy thing to do, as it could have resulted in a nice income.
Okay, so how did I know? How does anybody know? See, as you begin to get into the Internet marketing game, at least at the start, you really don’t have that much going on. Oh sure, you have a lot to do, especially when you’re trying to get your first site online, but all that work is usually concentrated on one project.
For most marketers, that project almost becomes a life long endeavor because they’re finding it difficult to turn it into a substantial income. In some ways, these people are actually very lucky because they don’t have to worry about being distracted.
But what about those marketers who can get a site up and running and in profit within 30 days, or less? What do they do? Most of the ones I know will branch off into other areas. They’ll tackle a new niche and try to get a site up and running in that one. Me…I do a number of things including coaching, copywriting, article writing and marketing. So how do I balance it all?
I figure out how long it takes me to do one specific thing. I then figure out how many of those projects I can take on before the stress starts to get to me. For example, in any given week, I know I can write about 14 articles, 1 sales letter and coach 2 students. Beyond that and it starts to get a little crazy. Remember, there are only so many hours in the day and you do need to take time to eat and sleep.
Everybody is different and everybody has their own tolerance to stress. So there is no way I can tell you what you can and can’t do. But if you’re thinking of taking on another project, similar to the one you already have going, simple math can do the trick. Just figure out how many total hours you will need per week by multiplying your current work load by two. It’s not an exact science but it’ll come close.
Bottom line is this…if you take on too much, what happens is that EVERYTHING suffers because you can’t do any of them effectively. Either that or something has to give.
So sit down and ask yourself if you’re already spread to thin?
The answer might surprise you.
