Email marketing is great. I’ve been doing it for over five years now. It’s responsible for quite a bit of my online income. One of the great things about it is that it’s so affordable. Just about anybody can do it, and not have to mortgage their house in the process. Problem is, today, email delivery isn’t what it used to be. There are many reasons for this. I’m going to briefly go over the main one and hopefully in the process keep your emails from ending up in the black hole of cyberspace.

I don’t like to put the blame on other people, but the truth is, most of the email delivery problems that we have today can be blamed on the spammers. They have made it so that ISPs have had no choice but to put very aggressive spam filters on their email service. The problem with this is that it also keeps a lot of legit emails from getting through. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times a customer would email me and I’d never receive it. It’s frustrating to say the least.

Okay, so what can we do about this problem? Well, there are a couple of things we can do. The first is to make sure that the subjects of our emails don’t contain words that might prevent our emails from being delivered. If you’re not sure what those words are, just go to Google and look up “spam checker” and you can easily check your subjects for spam words. You’ll also want to use these spam checkers on the body of your email as well. The fewer of these words we include, the better the chance we have of getting our emails delivered.

The other thing we can do is use an email delivery service that guarantees high delivery rates. Trying to deliver these emails from your own server is looking for trouble. For one thing, one spam complaint and your ISP can shut you down. For another, there is no way your ISP can guarantee the kind of delivery that a professional service can.

So, if you don’t want your emails to end up in a black hole, the above tips should help.
