This is going to be one of the more unusual articles that I’ve written. At the Warrior Forum today, I saw an interesting thread title. “Does As Seen On TV Add Credibility?” Without even blinking an eye, it made me realize so many things on both ends of the spectrum. Well, this article is going to take a look at both sides of this issue from the perspective of the seller and the buyer, not just from perceived credibility but from the cold hard realistic view.

Let’s start with the perceived credibility from the point of view of the buyer. Sure, when a buyer sees “As Seen On TV” they are more likely to believe that the product is legit, as if being on TV makes something legitimate. Not sure where this notion comes from but that’s the perception. The reality is a whole different can of worms. See, what most things don’t understand is that anybody can buy ad time on TV or simply get their product reported on because there were suspicions of inappropriate behavior. The reason the product was on TV may have nothing to do with how good the product is. That’s the reality. But few ever think about it.

Now, let’s take a look at it from the point of view of the seller. The perception is that if the seller puts “As Seen On TV” on his sales page, this is automatically going to add credibility and increase sales. However, the reality doesn’t exactly have to be quite that way. For one thing, in some niches, such as the “make money online” niche, many prospects know the routine. They understand that “As Seen On TV” doesn’t really mean squat. So your little label on your sales page isn’t going to mean beans. However, in niches where consumers are not so informed, yes, it can mean a lot.

This is why it’s important that you know who your target market is and test things out. What may work for one niche may not work for another.

Of course, actually getting your product on TV is another matter altogether.
