This isn’t going to go down well with all the folks out there peddling their site of the day. Just recently, Squidoo announced it’s new domain ever dot com. I was greeted by a nice message at my Squidoo account that read something like, wouldn’t you like to ever the greatest swagen ever dot com? I just had to laugh. Yeah, the gimmicks don’t ever stop do they. Well, before you jump into the latest “grab a piece of real estate” rush, you might want to read this article first. It may save you a lot of wasted time and frustration.

First of all, for those who don’t know, VRE stands for Virtual Real Estate, or more commonly referred to as your web site or domain. For example, all my domains for my Honest Income Program, My Secret Articles and even Steven Wagenheim itself, are virtual real estate. I own them. I can put anything I want up on them, within reason of course. How is this different from going to Squidoo and putting up something there under an account that you’re created?

Well, for starters, and this is the biggest difference of all, this domain isn’t yours. Yes, it’s yours for now. You’re renting it. Squidoo is letting you use it. But at any time, and for no reason at all, they can take it away from you. Make no mistake about it. It’s no different than if you were renting an apartment. Your landlord can kick you out at any time, whereas with your own home, the only way you can lose it is if you don’t pay your mortgage. In the case of domains, that would be your domain fee that you pay yearly. Even if you don’t pay your hosting fee, the domain is still yours. You don’t lose it.

Okay, but besides that, what’s the big difference between renting space from Squidoo and having your own virtual real estate? The big difference is in how quickly you can get traffic to your site. With renting a space from somebody like Squidoo, you’re still sending traffic to their domain. You’re not really building a name for yourself. However, with your own domain, you are building your own name. And, if you want, you can even rent space to others. This is something you can’t do through Squidoo. Only they can do the renting.

Ultimately, with your own virtual real estate, you are in complete control of everything. You don’t have to worry about any terms of service, other than your hosting company. And most hosting companies will allow you to put up just about anything, within reason.

So stop wasting your time building up somebody else’s virtual real estate and build up your own.

In the long run, you’ll be much better off.

    To YOUR Success,

    Steven Wagenheim
