Internet Marketing Tips – Building Relationships 101

You’re probably wondering why I’m even writing this article. Well, it was inspired by yet another rant on the Warrior Forum. One of the members, a very successful marketer, was complaining about how people would contact him on Skype, give no info, no name, just “Warrior Forum” and expect this person to start a conversation with them. And the story gets worse, but I won’t bore you with the details. Point is, if you want to do business with other marketers, you need to learn how to build a relationship with them. This article will give you a few basics.

First step is to introduce yourself and tell the person a little about yourself. You don’t want to be just some anonymous person on the Internet. People want to do business with other people. So give as much info about yourself as you’re comfortable giving. You don’t have to give your address and home phone number if you don’t want to. But a name, email address and Skype contact info would be nice. At least give some way for the person to get back to you.

Second piece of advice is to not start off with a sales pitch. Marketers are sick of hearing them as it is. If you do this, you are telling the person on the other end that the only thing you care about is making a buck off of them. Show some interest in the person himself. Ask what they do online. People love to talk about themselves, so let them talk. By doing this, they will be more receptive to what you have to say.

Finally, if you do make some kind of a pitch during your discussion (and I don’t recommend this on the first contact) always think about what’s in it for the person on the other end. If you can show the person how this will be in THEIR best interest, they may be more receptive to taking you up on whatever it is you are offering. And please, it has to be more than just “You can make $X from doing this.” It’s not all about the money. Some marketers won’t promote just anything. The product itself has to be quality and something that they believe in.

As this person on the Warrior Forum said, it seems that the art of building relationships is dying. Well, hopefully, if enough people read this article, the art of building relationships just might get a new life.
