Internet Marketing Tips – Capitalizing on Celebrity Comments

I am so thankful for the celebrities that we have in this world. If it were not for these people, I wouldn't have a good laugh but more importantly, I wouldn't be able to come up with some great marketing ideas. In this article, I'm going to speak generically about this and also give a specific example. I know you're going to absolutely love this one. Just recently, Paris Hilton was comparing a particular handbag to a part of her body. No, I'm not going to mention what part because I want to keep this article G rated at all costs. Let's just say that the comment was totally off the wall. Yet, there was some good marketing in it for those who were willing to pay attention. Imagine that you have an affiliate program for handbags or you're promoting an affiliate product related to handbags. You could easily whip up a marketing slogan or catch phrase that could capture the attention of your target market. Sure, it will probably take some thought to come up with something good, but by linking the celebrity name to the item, you do two things. At the top of the list, you get immediate interest because the celebrity's name is instantly recognizable. Therefore, you might actually get people reading your ad who aren't even in the market for the item. Now, some would say that non targeted prospects are worthless but that's not true. How often have you gone into a food store and walked past one of those candy displays and bought a candy bar? You really didn't want one when you got inside but seeing it MADE you want one. The same thing can happen here. Secondly, what the ad does is it attaches that celebrity TO the item itself. Think about somebody like William Shatner. When you think of him, don't you think of Priceline? There are many celebrities who we attach to certain items. Now, imagine if YOU are able to attach a celebrity to an item because of a comment that they made, even if it wasn't directly associated with the item to begin with. For example, Paris Hilton could have been talking about handbags in general. YOU could tie her comment to your PARTICULAR handbag and thus create a relationship that didn't really exist. For example, I might say something like, "Paris Hilton compares handbags to her (body part). Then I'm sure she'd just LOVE our handbags." Okay, maybe it's a little lame, but you get the idea. If you can't think of the catch phrase yourself, hire somebody who does this for a living. Like it or not, celebrities get a LOT of attention. So if you can attach a celebrity to your product in any way at all, you have a potential gold mine sitting in your lap. Now I just have to wonder what Paris Hilton is going to say next because I just don't sell handbags.
