I know it’s a big cliche but the saying “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket” has a lot of meaning when it comes to Internet marketing and running a business in general. So many people have had businesses destroyed because they didn’t diversify. Well, this article is going to give you a bird’s eye view of how diversified my own business is. When you see all the things that I am into, you’ll wonder how I get it all done. Well, that’s another story altogether. This one is about diversification.

My main business is creating my own products in the Internet marketing niche. These are products that I create that help other business owners with their business. Some of the products teach marketing while others teach copywriting, article writing and other skills. I have a wide line so that I can appeal to many different needs. This is one way of diversifying.

In addition to that, I also have products outside the Internet marketing niche. I am also involved in the niches of health, divination, gambling and photography. Lot of people probably didn’t know this about me. Yes, I’m not just an IM guru. The reasoning behind my getting into other niches is to have something to fall back on just in case things go sour in the make money online niche. Hey, you never know. Nothing in life is guaranteed.

The niches you’re involved in are only one type of diversification. Then there is also the way you advertise. So many marketers put all their money into promoting their products using Adwords. But what would happen if Adwords changed its rules, as it has done before, and your campaigns are no longer working for you? How much time will it take you to get them working again? Can you afford to be down for any length of time without an income?

This is why I use many forms of advertising so that if one goes down or stops working as well as it used to, I have other forms to fall back on. I use article marketing, Adwords, forum participation and other means in order to generate a steady income. I have found that each method of promotion has its highs and lows. So by using more than one form, you help prevent your income stream from drying up.

Diversification may very well be one of the most important things you can do when it comes to running your business. It may very well mean the difference between a steady income and no income at all.
