Internet Marketing Tips – Evaluating Your Strengths and Weaknesses
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: internet marketing strategies, internet marketing strategy, strategic internet marketingNo CommentsIf you’re going to succeed as an Internet marketer, one of the things that you need to be able to do is evaluate your strengths and weaknesses. You can do this on your own, if you can be objective enough, or, if that’s not an option, you can have others do it for you. This article is going to discuss why this is so important for Internet marketing success…starting off with a brief story.
This story isn’t directly related to IM, but it is relevant. After you hear it, you’ll understand why.
I’m a songwriter. I’ve been writing songs for over 25 years. Just recently, I entered a songwriting contest and just got the results back. Each of my songs was evaluated on several components. What I learned from these evaluations was that my songwriting was strong in melody but weak in lyrics. This told me that I needed to do one of two things. Either work on improving my lyrics, or find a lyricist who WAS better at that aspect to complement my music.
How does this apply to Internet marketing? It’s very simple. Each aspect of it requires a different skill. There is ad writing or sales copy writing, organization, web design and other skills. I know very few people in this world who are great at everything. I certainly am not. What you need to do is look at each of the things you need to do as a marketer and evaluate them or have somebody else do it for you.
The areas where you are strong, work to make them stronger. For example, if you find that you have a flair for writing ad copy, you might even consider going into the area of copywriting. However, if you find that writing ads is something that makes you want to pull your hair out of your head, you might be better off hiring a copywriter to write your sales pages for you. Naturally, you can try to improve that skill, but understand that it’s going to be at the cost of time and/or money. Weak sales pages don’t sell as well as strong ones.
Being objective about yourself is one of the hardest things in the world to do. I have to work at it every single day. But I understand that if I delude myself to believe that I am better at something than I really am, that is going to ultimately hurt my bottom line.
What I want you to do today is write down all the things that you do as a marketer and honestly evaluate your skill in each area. If you can do this, you’re on your way to seeing where you either need to improve or get somebody else to do the job for you.
