Internet Marketing Tips – Even Gurus Make Mistakes
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: internet marketing strategies, internet marketing strategy, strategic internet marketingNo CommentsRecently, an Internet marketing guru did a promotion for a forced continuity program and got a lot of heat for it because of the way he did it. He has since made some changes and has apologized for his errors. Now, a lot of us “little” guys might be thinking that a guru should know better. Well, believe it or not, gurus are people too and they make mistakes, just like we do. But that’s not what this article is about. It’s about what to do once you’ve made a mistake so that your reputation doesn’t get dragged through the mud for all eternity. I think you’ll want to read this just in case something like this should ever happen to you.
In most cases, when you’ve screwed up, you don’t know it until it’s too late…when somebody writes to you and lets you know under no uncertain terms that you screwed up. When this happens, don’t get defensive. Don’t try to wiggle your way out of it. The more you do this, the more you’re just going to bring the wrath of the masses down upon you. I am speaking from experience, and I’m NO guru.
What you want to do is apologize…plain and simple. Admit your mistake and then assure the person that you’re going to do everything in your power to correct it. Naturally, your actions are going to vary depending on what the mistake is, so I won’t get into any specifics here. Use some common sense in this area. For example, if you did a forced continuity promotion and you didn’t make it clear that there was forced continuity in it, change the promotion. Add the things that will make it clear that forced continuity is involved.
Finally, you want to make a note of what you did to cause the screw up. The reason you want to do this is so that in case you ever do a promotion like this again, you’ll have your notes of what you did wrong the last time so that you don’t do them again. This could be something as simple as having not checked your sales page link before you sent your email. You’ll be surprised how many people don’t do this and it ends up in total disaster.
There is nothing wrong with making mistakes as long as you admit to them, fix them and then make notes so that you don’t make the same mistakes again.
That is how we grow as Internet marketers…even those of us who aren’t gurus.
