Internet Marketing Tips – Free Does Not Mean Worthless

Because a lot of Internet marketers really don’t get the concept of offering something of value for free in order to get future customers. The key word being “value”. I guess we all have our own definition of what that word means. For what it’s worth to you, I’m going to give you mine. Hopefully, it won’t be worthless.
A few days ago, I downloaded a free report on how to generate tons of traffic. I thought to myself, okay, if it’s free, it can’t be all that great. See, I’m just as guilty of this thought process as everyone else. Well, I read the report and sure enough, it WAS worthless. It was 15 minutes of my life that I was never going to get back…ever. I don’t know what this person was thinking when they created this report, but if they thought they were ever going to get me as a customer, they were dead wrong.
Okay, so how do we offer something for free and actually make it worth something? Well, one great way is with software. Why not offer a free version of the software that either has limited capabilities or can only be used for 30 days before the person has to buy it. This way, they get to see what it does, how good it is, and if it’s something that they can really use. If the software is really good, you’ll end up getting quite a few people to buy the full version from you.
Another way to offer something for free that has value is to take one of your products that people have to pay for, such as an ebook, and release a portion of it as a free download. For example, let’s say that you have a book on traffic generation with 10 great methods inside. Why not take three of those methods and release them as a free report? This way, potential buyers can see just how great the methods are and most likely will want to buy the rest of the book to get the other seven methods.
There is absolutely no reason why a free report or product of any kind has to be worthless. Too many marketers work from a scarcity mentality, thinking that if they give anything away of value, they won’t get any paying customers. This couldn’t be farther from the truth.
Free does NOT have to mean worthless.
