People tell me that I spend way too much time at forums. Maybe I do, but there is a reason for all the time I spend there. It comes down to getting ideas. Sure, I want to help other members with their problems, but if you’re a marketer and want to stay on top of things and even be a little innovative, there is nothing like spending some time at your favorite forum. This article is going to explain why and also how to come up with those great ideas.

Let’s start with the why. It really goes back to that old saying, “No man is an island.” I don’t care how bright and independent you are. Nobody can think of everything all on their own. Everybody needs somebody to inspire them and bounce ideas off of. I can’t tell you how many times I’d go to a forum and see a thread asking a certain question and I’d say to myself, “Wow, that would make a GREAT product. I can’t believe nobody has thought of that yet.” And then I’d go and crank it out as fast as possible before somebody beat me to it.

Okay, that’s WHY you want to go to forums for ideas. But HOW do you get them? That’s another thing altogether. One way is simply by reading the questions that are posted there. Most people who attend forums do so BECAUSE they have questions. I can’t tell you how many I see posted on a daily basis. It has to be in the hundreds. Somewhere in those questions is an idea for a product or a way to market a product. You just have to take the time to read the threads.

Another way to get ideas is by asking your OWN questions. Maybe you’re curious about what people think about a certain subject. By getting their feedback, you can get many ideas for new products or ways to promote an existing one. Sure, not all the answers are going to be helpful, but every forum has its share of knowledgeable members who love nothing more than to share their smarts. Hey, it’s human nature to want to show people how much you know. It’s from these people that you can sometimes get your best ideas.

The key to all of this is being able to pick out those golden nuggets. Yes, it takes some time before you can recognize what’s worth incorporating into your marketing strategy. Trust me, some people come up with some pretty lame ideas. But after a while, you’ll get good at it. And when you do, you’ll be coming up with strategies and products that will make you a consistent income for a very long time to come.
