Internet Marketing Tips – How Effective Are Press Releases?
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: internet marketing strategies, internet marketing strategy, strategic internet marketingNo CommentsThere are more ways to market on the Internet than Carter has liver pills. One of those ways is with press releases. The question I’m putting out there in this article is simple. How effective are they? Well, it really depends on who you ask. But the truth is, they’re only going to be as effective as the topics they are on. This article takes a look at this issue…objectively.
First off, for those who don’t know what a press release is, according to Princeton University, it is an announcement distributed to members of the press in order to supplement an oral presentation. Other sources define it as an announcement seeking to draw attention to a specific event or product launch. In other words, a press release is something newsworthy. And that’s what trips up most Internet marketers when it comes to creating one.
If you’re the typical Internet marketer, you’re stuck in promotion mode. Everything you write turns into some kind of an ad. And that’s the one thing that a press release cannot be…an ad. It needs to stick strictly to the facts of whatever it is you’re announcing. So if you’re releasing a new product, your press release might read something like this.
“On April 19, 2010, XYZ company will be releasing it’s new product ABC. This product is designed to help the average home owner…” and so on, describing what the product is supposed to do. There are no testimonials added, no sales hype, no guarantees, nothing that would appear on a typical sales page. It is simply a news item.
So, given the nature of what a press release is, how effective is it? Well, it depends on what the release is about. Imagine if you were coming out with a cure for cancer. Think that would generate a lot of interest? I think it would. The press would be all over it. Conversely, if your press release was about underwater pole vaulting, I doubt that any member of the press would take you seriously.
A press release on a topic or product that has real potential is going to get circulated around the Internet. The more it’s circulated, the more interest it’s going to generate. The more interest it generates, the more potential customers you will have when the product is actually released.
So as you can see, the question of whether or not a press release is effective is a conditional one.
As with anything else when it comes to Internet marketing.
