Internet Marketing Tips – Hub Pages, Squidoo and Blogs Oh My!

I guess it comes with the territory. There’s just no way you can be involved in Internet marketing without a bunch of people taking one side or the other on whatever issue it is they’re beating their chests over. One day it’s payment processors and affiliate programs and the next it’s “Where the heck do I put my content?” Is there a BEST place? Before you drive yourself nuts trying to figure out whether to use Hub Pages, Squidoo, Blogspot, WordPress or whatever, you might want to read this article. It will separate the fact from the fiction.

Let’s start with this. Regardless of where you choose to place your content, your chances of success are going to largely be based on the content itself rather than where you put it. If you don’t get that much, then there is no need for you to read further. In other words, if I’m going to write an article on underwater pole vaulting, it’s not going to matter WHERE I put it…nobody is going to read it. In fact, I actually tried to create my own sub niche a while back. I put content everywhere. It didn’t matter. There just isn’t that much interest in it. Okay, so content matters as well as the niche itself.

Secondly, all of these sites are very popular in the search engines. If you check the PR of each, you will find they are all very high. If you check the backlinks for each, you will find that each site has tons of them. So regardless of who you choose, you’re not going to be making a wrong choice. The question is, is there a choice that is better than the others?

Measurably…no. And here is why I say measurably. I see people pointing out many places where Wikipedia has a top spot for a certain topic. These same people will then point out where Hub Pages has a top spot for another topic. And then there are those who say Blogspot can never get you a top placement. Ironically, I can point to many keyword phrases where the top site is a Blogspot blog.

Okay, so the question is simple. Why is there such a diversity? Why do some topics rank well with Squidoo and not Hub Pages while Squidoo can’t be found to save your life for some topics? The answer is simple, but you’re not going to want to hear it.

Ready? The marketers who put the content on their platform of choice did NOT do a good job with the content itself. Maybe the article was thin. Maybe it didn’t have enough relevant info in relation to the topic. Or…maybe somebody else did a better job at another platform. Or for that matter, maybe privately owned sites did a better job.

And that brings us to the real issue. All things being equal, a privately owned site (your own domain and hosting) is going to rank better than if you put the same content on a Squidoo or Hub Page or wherever. And the reason is because a domain like skydiving dot com is always going to have an advantage over a squidoo or Hub Page subdomain with those keywords in it IF the content is the same for both.

I know many who will disagree with that, and that’s fine. But trust me, in the long run, having your own domain is going to do better than putting your content on any of those sites…no matter which one you choose.

So, if your own domain is out of the question because of money, fine…pick one of those platforms. It doesn’t matter. As long as your content is solid and you’re not competing with a ton of independent sites for those keywords, you’ll do fine.

Hub Pages, Squidoo, Blogspot or whatever…it’s six of one, half dozen of the other.
