Internet Marketing Tips – I is For Incentivized Traffic
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: internet marketing strategies, internet marketing strategy, strategic internet marketingNo CommentsIn this installment of Internet marketing, A-Z, we’re up to the letter I. So, I am going to tackle the subject of incentivized traffic. There’s a lot of debate in the Internet marketing community as to whether or not incentivized traffic is worth a hill of beans or not. Well, this marketer is going to give his unbiased opinion (is that a contradiction in terms?) about this form of traffic generation. You can then decide if it’s something you want to dabble in or not.
First of all, we need to define the term itself. Incentivized traffic is traffic that makes its way to your web page via a bribe. Like it or not, that’s what it essentially comes down to. The person who offers the bribe, usually a third party, will offer the visitor some kind of compensation (maybe credits towards a purchase) if they go to your site. So, in order to collect the compensation, the visitor makes his way to your humble home. You get a visitor and they get compensated.
Great…now that we know WHAT it is, the next step is to determine if it’s worth anything to anyone other than the person who got the bribe. Well, let’s look at it logically. If somebody is being bribed to come to your site, what are the chances that this person is actually going to be interested in what you have there? Well, that’s where the type of bribe and where the traffic is coming from comes into play. See, believe it or not, not all incentivized traffic is worthless.
Let’s say you have a site about video games and the briber, maybe a third party software company, bribes people with credits for some video game purchase. Now, this visitor may have a particular game in mind, but…they then get to your web page and find something that they can’t get anywhere else. There is a very good chance that they’ll end up making a purchase from your site even though they were bribed to go there.
The problem is, most incentivized traffic isn’t that targeted. You don’t know where it’s coming from or what these people are interested in. That’s why, if you ARE going to purchase these packages, you need to first make sure you ask what this traffic is generally interested in. A good incentivized traffic broker will make sure that the packages are as targeted as possible.
So, while this form of traffic generation isn’t the greatest in the world, if you do your research and find a good broker with traffic that is closely targeted to what you’re selling, you can do fairly well with it.
