Internet Marketing Tips – If You Need to Justify Something It’s Wrong

I have noticed that a lot of Internet marketers feel the need to justify the things that they do. Well, in my opinion, if you need to justify your actions, then there is something wrong with them. I know I’m going to get a lot of slack for this article but so be it. The ethics of some people has gotten to the point where there are very few people who I would ever do business with online. This article is going to dig a little deeper into this subject than most people would prefer. If you’re one of them, I suggest not reading it.

You don’t have to go far to find ethical problems in this business. There are of course the obvious things such as spam. Most of us can pretty much agree on this issue but there are even those of us who feel that this is okay. Their rationale is that the receiver of the email can always just delete it. If you’re one of these people who believe this, please send me your name and email so I can make a note never to do business with you.

But beyond the obvious things, there are the not so obvious, like forced continuity. The people who defend it say that the terms are all there in the fine print…if you bother to read it. See, that’s where I have my problem. Why does it have to be in the fine print? Why can’t these marketers just say right up front that if the download this free report, they’re going to be billed X number of dollars after the first 30 days if they don’t cancel? Why isn’t this put in big bold letters right in the middle of the sales copy and right above the download link itself so that NOBODY can miss it?

The reason they don’t do this is because they know it will decrease sales. They know that a good number of people will never bother canceling and just keep on getting the product or service. Laziness is one of the Internet marketers biggest assets when it comes to their customers. And they count on this. Stating something up front will decrease the downloads, thus decreasing sales. And heaven knows we can’t have that. Their justification? It’s in the fine print.

I could keep going on with example after example but I think you got the point. If you have to justify your actions, then there is something wrong with what you’re doing. Like I said, many people will not like hearing this, and that’s fine. You’re free to scratch me off your “do business with” list as well. But I for one am sick and tired of all the deceit and trickery that goes on in this business.

    Hopefully, I’m not alone.
