Internet Marketing Tips – Is it Really a Numbers Game?
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: internet marketing strategies, internet marketing strategy, strategic internet marketingNo CommentsYou hear this saying all the time. “Internet marketing is just a numbers game.” But is it really? It’s so easy to repeat things that we hear all the time and believe them to be the gospel. But sometimes, reality isn’t what we think it is. In this article, I’m going to dive into this question in some depth. Hopefully, you will get more out of this than just a headache.
Okay, let’s start out with some basic facts. There ARE numbers when it comes to Internet marketing. You have the amount of traffic you get to your site for starters. Without traffic, I don’t care how good your product or sales page is. You can’t make sales without people visiting your site. You then have conversion stats. The higher the conversion rate, given the same amount of traffic, the more sales you make. Great…these and many other stats are all valuable numbers. They are what they are. But they don’t tell the whole story and this is where marketers get bogged down.
Behind these numbers are real people with real needs. Probably the best way to explain to you why this is not just a numbers game is with an example. Let’s say you are selling a product to help people quit smoking. Will you agree that this is a fairly common problem and one that has a huge market? Well, what do you think would happen if you took your marketing efforts to a site that catered mostly to other Internet marketers? Sure, there will probably be some smokers there. There are smokers in every walk of life. But don’t you think you’d get a better result if you took your marketing efforts to a quit smoking forum?
It isn’t the number of people you reach. It’s the number of people you reach who actually have the problem you are selling a solution for. So a forum of marketers with 100,000 members will probably not convert as well as a forum of smokers with 20,000 members.
But this is still only part of the equation. Let’s take those 20,000 smokers and give them two sales pitches. One is very poorly constructed. It doesn’t really address the concerns of the smoker. It doesn’t accurately point out the dangers. The other sales pitch is carefully crafted and really pushes all the buttons of the person on the receiving end. Which sales pitch do you think is going to work better?
It’s still just ONE sales letter. And it’s still the same 20,000 people being reached. But the QUALITY of the message is going to make all the difference in the world. So you see, it’s not all about numbers. It’s about understanding people and what they want and need.
Until you can do that effectively, all the numbers in the world aren’t going to make you any money.
