Internet Marketing Tips – Knowing When To Fire Your List
No CommentsI know there is a saying that says the customer is always right. Well, the customer may always be right, but that doesn’t mean you have to put up with all the nonsense that some customers will put you through. And when it comes to list building, and giving away free information, you certainly don’t have to put up with some of the nonsense that I have personally seen floating around the Internet. Sometimes you really have to fire the person who is on your list. This article is going to give you some perfect examples of when that absolutely needs to be done.
The most annoying thing that can happen when somebody signs up for your list is that a day or two later you find that you are suddenly on HIS list. That’s right. You start getting emails from this person pitching his products to you. Well, signing up for somebody’s informational list does NOT give you the right to start spamming him with your offers. So if you find a person is on your list and doing this sort of thing, unsubscribe yourself from his list and then unsubscribe him from your list. If the emails do not stop, notify his ISP. It’s that simple.
The above is an extreme example and not many people will actually do this. However, the following example is a lot more common. Occasionally, you will get a person on your list who is never satisfied with anything you do. He’ll complain that he’s getting too many emails from you. Then, after you’ve adjusted your autoresponder to not email as often, he’ll complain that he’s not getting enough information from you. Then, he’ll complain, on the occasion that you actually do pitch a product to him (after all, we are in this to make money) that he didn’t sign up for your list to be pitched to. He just wants the free info and doesn’t want to be bothered with your product suggestions. Then he’ll complain about the tone of your letters. Then he’ll complain about the misspellings. Then he’ll complain about the subject lines being misleading or not what’s actually in the email itself.
Get the picture? This person will complain about anything and everything. And yet, he’ll never unsubscribe from your list. When this happens, and don’t worry, you’ll see it coming, simply unsubscribe this person. He’s just not worth the hassle.
Finally, there is the person who not only wants the free info that you provide, but he expects you to mentor him for nothing. He wants you to spend countless hours helping him design web sites, build autoresponders, learn sales copy and so on. What I kindly tell these people is that I do offer these services for a monthly fee if they’re interested. If they persist on bugging me for help (claiming that they signed up for my list to get that help) I simply unsubscribe them. No, they didn’t sign up for my list to get mentored. They signed up for some free information, a report, or whatever.
Naturally, you will run your business the way you see fit. I am just giving my opinion on when I feel it is necessary to fire the people on your list.
