Internet Marketing Tips – Knowing When You’re Fighting a Losing Battle
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: internet marketing strategies, internet marketing strategy, strategic internet marketingNo CommentsHuman beings are a stubborn lot. We just don’t know when to realize that we’re fighting a losing battle and it’s time to take our marbles and go home. I am just as guilty of this as anyone else. Well, in this article, I’m going to give some examples of losing battles and then sum it up with some common sense advice. Take this advice for what it’s worth to you.
Hypothetical situation number 1 – You decide that you’re going to take your marketing to a forum. Let’s say you’re in the health niche and you go to a health forum. You setup your account and place a link to your site in your signature and start replying to posts and even starting some of your own threads. Turns out that this particular forum doesn’t allow links in signatures. So they delete all your posts and ban you from the forum. No warning, no nothing. Your first impulse is to join under another name. Don’t bother. They’ve got your IP logged, they know your style from your previous posts and besides, you can’t promote anything there anyway, so what’s the point? This is a losing battle and not worth fighting. Move on to another forum and make sure you find out FIRST if they allow signature links.
Hypothetical situation 2 – You have a customer who emails you about a product you sold him. He’s not happy with it and writes you a very nasty email. He doesn’t ask for a refund but he demands that you make some changes to the product or add a few things. Okay, so you agree to do this. You make the changes and send him the new version. He writes back. He’s still not happy with the product and demands more changes. So you make them as well. Finally, after about four go rounds of this, you realize that this person is never going to be satisfied. This is where you have to stop the fight and refund his money. Otherwise, this is going to go on forever AND he’s going to expect this with any product you sell him.
Hypothetical situation 3 – A forum on the Internet is posting derogatory things about you. So you write to the forum and to the hosting company asking that the posts be taken down. They comply one time. But it starts all over again, so you go through the whole thing all over again. Finally, you get a reply back saying that the comments posted are protected under some act (yes, it’s true) and that there is nothing you can do about it. They refuse to take down the offensive threads. Unless you have some really high priced lawyers and can prove that these comments are hurting your business, this a battle you are best to just leave alone.
These are just a few of the many examples I can give you. The bottom line is this. When you see you are confronted with a situation that you can’t win…let it go. You will end up spending unproductive time on something that is futile instead of spending it on actually building your business. So you are doubly hurting yourself.
Know when to throw in the towel.
