I don’t write about backlinking often. Actually, I’ve never written about it before up until today. No, I usually just go about my business and quietly build backlinks to my sites…some of which have over 10,000 and growing. So I thought it was time to share some of my simple backlinking strategies with you today. They do take a bit of work, but the time is well spent.

For starters, I do not automate things. I build my backlinks slowly and over time…naturally, the old fashioned way. It works for me and has never gotten me sandboxed by the big G yet. So you might want to take some of my advice to heart.

I start with article writing and submitting the articles to directories as well as putting them on my own site. Just writing a few articles a day can really add up over time. I make sure my resource box has a link pointing back to my site.

Next, I create videos and upload them to the big video sites like YouTube. I make sure that in the description of the video I include a link back to my site. I try to do at least one new video a week. After a year, you’ve got quite a collection.

In addition to the above, I’ll create some web 2.0 sites using tools like Squidoo, which makes it very simple to get a site up in no time flat. I’ll also create blogs using Blogspot and WordPress (on my own domain)…all pointing back to my main site.

I’ll go to social bookmarking sites and bookmark any new content I create. For this, Digg is at the top of my list. I do this every time I create new content. Over time, it adds up.

Finally, and this is a big one, I’ll go to other blogs in my niche and post relevant comments on them. Some of these comments are article length so that they actually have some real value. I’ll try to go to at least two or three blogs a week.

When you combine all of the above methods, it adds up over time. Suddenly you wake up one day and you find that you have thousands of backlinks pointing to your site.

It’s not a glamorous process, but it works and it won’t get you sandboxed by Google or anybody else.
