Well, this is another rant coming. It is inspired from a post at a forum from a person who paid for a service at that forum and didn’t receive what he paid for. His question was, “What do I do?” It amazes me the number of people in this world who just can’t think for themselves. Well, I’m sure you’re not one of them but I’m still going to go over some forum basics here that you might want to tuck away for future use.

At the one form I frequent, there is a section called “For Hire”. This is where members promote their services for hire. Well, one guy ordered some articles and never got them. So, what do you do? Well, since this is a forum sponsored section, the first thing you do is post to the thread saying that you’re still waiting for your product. If you get no reply, the next course of action is simply to report the incident to the help desk of the forum. The forum admin will then take whatever action they feel is necessary…even deleting the member’s account if need be.

In the meantime, there are things you can also do outside of the forum. For example, if you paid for the service via PayPal and didn’t receive it, simply contact PayPal and open a dispute. This will freeze the person’s funds until they respond. You may not get your money back but there is at least a good chance that you will. At the very least, PayPal will force a dialogue between the two of you before they will release the funds to the offending party.

Each forum has its own rules. Some will allow you to publicly name offenders. Others will not. You need to read and understand the rules of the forum before you do anything that might jeopardize your own account. What I don’t understand is why so many people just can’t think through these things on their own. I mean, isn’t this common sense? Or am I just being naive that all human beings actually use their heads for something more than a hat rack?

Anyway, if you ever have any problems at a forum and don’t know how to handle them, hopefully the above scenario will give you some idea.
