It would be really nice if everything to do with Internet marketing was cut and dried. It’s not. Some areas are as gray as the South’s uniforms during the Civil War. Sometimes, decisions are not easy to make and it’s a matter of choosing between the lesser of two evils. This article is going to give some examples of what I’m talking about in an effort to help you understand better. Yes, sometimes you have to pick your poison.

Let’s start with a very common problem that many Internet marketers have, regardless of whether they’re creating their own products or promoting products as an affiliate. I’m talking about choosing an affiliate program. Two of the most popular are Clickbank and PayDotCom. If you’re thinking that either one is perfect, think again.

For example, with Clickbank, you have the problem with the marketplace being so popular that a lot of unethical marketers will go out of their way to cookie stuff and essentially steal your commissions from you. This can sometimes make promoting products through Clickbank a real pain in the neck. On the other hand, with PayDotCom you need to collect your affiliate commissions from the creator of the product, whereas with Clickbank, you get paid directly from the affiliate program itself. Think that’s not a problem? Tell that to the people who never received payments for their efforts.

What about just the problem of deciding whether to create your own products or sell products as an affiliate? Think either one is a walk in the park? Think again. With affiliate marketing, you’re totally at the mercy of the product creator. If he decides to reduce your commission from 75% to 25%, there is nothing you can do about it. If he decides to cut the price of his product in half, same thing. You’re screwed. Only thing you can do is look for another product to promote.

And if you think product creation doesn’t have its headaches, think again. The time expenditure creating the product alone can be a killer. In the time it takes to create a massive 7 ebook package, you could have probably made $10,000 or more as an affiliate marketer. And then, when you finally finish the product and promote it, you don’t even know if it’s going to sell. Talk about risk. At least with affiliate products, you have the choice of picking products that you know are selling.

As Internet marketers, we pick our poison every single day. At the end of that day, we can only hope that we have enough antidote to keep us out of the Internet marketing morgue.
