Internet Marketing Tips – Protecting Your Graphics
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: internet marketing strategies, internet marketing strategy, strategic internet marketingNo CommentsThieves are everywhere. It’s a miracle that anything is safe online. I have personally been fighting a war against the crooks online longer than I care to admit to. It’s a never ending struggle and just when you think you’ve made some progress, they come out with a new way to steal your stuff. Well, in this article, I’m going to give you some things you can do to protect the graphics on your site from being stolen. None of them are fool proof but they’re a start.
Let me start off by saying this much. A person with the technical skills required WILL be able to steal your images. However, these tips will work against your average crook who’s just looking to do a simple download or copy and paste job.
One thing you can do is use javascript to disable the right click function of a person’s mouse. This way, they can’t get to the menu options where they can either do a “save as” or a “copy”. For your average surfer, this is a very effective method and will probably keep about 50% of the people going to your web site from stealing your images.
Another technique is to put watermarks on your images. This doesn’t keep the crook from stealing them but it does make the images themselves less than desirable to use. Personally, I would never put a watermarked image on any of my web sites. Any visitor seeing a watermarked image is going to know that the person stole them. So this isn’t going to be good for his business.
Another thing you can do is simply put up low quality images so that if they do download them, they’re not very useful. The problem with this is that is makes the images on your site not look very good either.
Let’s be honest. These are some pretty poor solutions for protecting your hard work. I know. However, the above suggestions will help to a degree.
Yeah, it’s getting harder and harder to protect your work.
Fortunately, we’re getting better and better at doing it.
