Internet Marketing Tips – Using Products For Good Or Evil

There is a reason why I am bringing this issue up and I will explain why shortly. There are a lot of products out there, mostly software, that Internet marketers use to help promote their businesses. These products can be used to do some real good. However, they can also be used for evil. There seems to be a feeling, among some marketers, that because the product can be used for evil, it shouldn’t be sold at all. This article is going to address that issue. Please note, that this is just my opinion. Take it for what it’s worth to you.

First of all, why am I bringing this issue up in the first place? The reason is because of a thread that was started at the Warrior Forum regarding products that advocate breaking a site’s TOS. In the thread, an issue was brought up about some software that many people use for good that can also be used to do the very thing that the thread itself addressed. Some members called the software’s creator a hypocrite for selling it, knowing that it could be used to violate a site’s TOS.

Here is my position on this matter. Again, take it for what it’s worth to you. In my kitchen drawer, I have a very sharp and big knife. It was bought for the exclusive purpose of carving turkey when my wife roasts one. It makes carving the turkey very easy and she’d be lost without it. That same knife can easily penetrate a person’s chest and cause instant death. Make no mistake about it. That knife is a weapon in the wrong hands.

My point is this. Just about anything can be used for evil. I don’t care what it is. There is a saying that guns don’t kill people…people kill people. It is very true. Want to stop making guns? No problem. People will find other ways of killing each other. It is the same thing with software that people use for their business. If there is a way to use that software to do harm, they will figure it out.

What we need is not more regulation on what software can be created and sold, but stiffer penalties for people who use that software to violate a site’s TOS. Maybe then, when people get caught and are appropriately punished, it might make a person think twice about using that software for evil. But let’s not throw stones at the software’s creator.

Otherwise, we’re all going to have to get rid of our turkey carvers.
