As they said in Chicago, you gotta razzle dazzle ‘em. Look, if you want to make it in video marketing for your products or services, you have to put on the glitz, which is kind of like putting on the Ritz except without the crackers. Okay, that was a very bad joke but you get the point. Video is all about the schmaltz. Without it, you haven’t got a prayer unless you’re selling something that practically sells itself, like a miracle cure for death. That’ll go over REAL big with the octogenarian crowd. But if you’re just selling a plain old wart remover, then glitz you must have.

Okay, so how do you get it? Well, the first thing you want to do is start watching a lot of infomercials. You may hate them, but let me tell you, these guys have the glitz down to a science. Have you ever seen one of the early infomercials for the Ginsu knife set? “It slices, it dices.” The voiceover was so over the top it was almost comical. Guess what? That knife set sold millions. Was it the greatest thing since sliced bread? For crying out loud, it was a set of knives. That’s the power of a glitzy video. By watching tons of these things, you will begin to get a feel for what makes them tick…without having to take a course in video production.

Another thing you can do is head on over to YouTube. You will find more infomercial type videos there than you can possibly imagine. Have you seen the one with the guy with the blender that can blend anything? Those are some off the wall videos and very addictive. They’re so well done, you can’t help but want to watch more of them to see what else he’s going to shove in his blender. I can only imagine how many of these things that guy sells.

Video is all around you. You don’t need a technical degree. All you need to do is to take a look around and see what other people are doing and then take your product and figure out how you can put a unique spin on it. Sometimes that’s all it takes.
