The autoresponder wars will probably continue long after I am gone from this planet. Everybody is looking for the perfect autoresponder. Well, I have news for you, you don’t have to have a perfect autoresponder. The truth is, there are only a few things that you really need to have one looking for an autoresponder. I am going to go over those few things in this article. Hopefully, after you are done reading this, you will know exactly what is important when picking an autoresponder for yourself.

At the absolute top of the list above everything else is the ability to have your e-mails delivered. I don’t care how many bells and whistles your autoresponder has. If your e-mails do not get delivered, none of that other stuff matters. So the very first thing you want to do is find a service that has a reputation for getting their e-mails delivered. This is absolutely critical. Failure to do this leaves everything else irrelevant. Trust me on this, I am speaking from experience. I used to use an autoresponder service where none of my e-mails got delivered. It was the biggest waste of time in my life.

Another important feature of an autoresponder is the ability to control whether you want double or single opt in. The reason this is important is because with some niches in isn’t so critical to have a double opt in. If an autoresponder service does not give you the option then this will seriously limit the effectiveness of your campaigns. Many times, you will lose subscribers because they either don’t want to go through the process of double opt in or they do not get the e-mails delivered. So make sure you get either option.

Finally, there are all those bells and whistles. Yes, they are nice to have. One of the most important that I find is the ability to split test your e-mails. This way you can tell when e-mail ads are working and which ones are not working.

There you have it, the only things I really consider important when picking an autoresponder service. Yes, all the other bells and whistles are nice to have, but without these three things, you are going to be working at a severe disadvantage.
