Internet Marketing Tips – What Marketing Tactics Annoy You?
No CommentsThis article was inspired by a thread at the Warrior Forum. It is actually the kind of thread that gets started at least once a month. The thread starter simply asked, “What marketing tactics annoy you?” And of course the usual answers come up…videos that you can’t stop, multiple exit pop-ups and so on. I’m sure you have your own favorites as well. But that’s really not the point of this article. What is the point? Well, keep reading and you’ll find out.
There is a major flaw with a lot of Internet marketers…especially those who haven’t quite had the success that they would like. This flaw leads these marketers to look at Internet marketing tactics, especially the ones that they don’t like, and instead of learning from them, they complain about them. Forget about how this is totally unproductive. You can’t grow as a marketer unless you understand why other marketers do the things that they do.
Now, before I go on, let me clarify something. Just because a marketer does something doesn’t mean that it’s working for them. That is actually a big problem in this industry. Many new marketers will copy what other marketers are doing without knowing why they’re doing it. They don’t bother testing the results or anything else and then, when they get no results, they wonder why. Blindly following what somebody else is doing is just as bad as blindly dismissing it just because you don’t personally like it.
I will say this much. If there is a certain tactic out there that you don’t like because you feel it’s deceptive, like hidden forced continuity, then that is a different story. If something goes against your ethics then you shouldn’t do it. However, if it’s something that you just find annoying, such as videos without controls or multiple exit pop-ups, don’t dismiss these things until you’ve tested them for YOUR niche to see if they work.
That’s something else that many marketers don’t understand. Just because something works or doesn’t work for one niche doesn’t mean that it’s going to perform the same way in another niche. For example, a golfer looking to improve his golf swing is probably more likely to watch a long video on the subject than a person looking to earn a living online watching a long video on how to pick a business model. That can be some really dull stuff.
Point is, don’t dismiss something just because you don’t like it. The only way you’re going to grow as a marketer is to test the tactics that are out there to see if they ultimately end up increasing your bottom line.
To YOUR Success,
